Neher lab

and the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE)

Our goals and vision

Neurodegenerative diseases are now recognised as being multifactorial disorders. Therefore, in order to develop effective treatments, there is a need to not only understand the contribution of individual pathological changes but also their synergistic effects. In our lab, we are working on how age-related changes, protein aggregation as well as vascular dysfunction synergise to drive Alzheimer's disease.

systems biology of Alzheimer disease

Currently, we have a particular focus on the role of the immune system and on vascular amyloid aggregates. However, we are expanding our research strategy and methodologies to perform an integrated analysis of the different components of Alzheimer's disease pathogenesis, a so-called systems medicine approach.
